Chapter Nine

After a tense and quiet breakfast, Alpha and Dawn headed out to work for the day, and I nervously sent Nyssa a text. I didn’t immediately want to jump right into meeting up, so I just chose to text her a greeting for the morning. We started to talk back and forth, and I found that she had a really laid back, relaxing way of communicating. Just that little bit of texting seemed to take the edge off my uncomfortable breakfast.

Before I knew it, I was lounging on the couch with a smile on my face, thoroughly enjoying the conversation. It made me less anxious and more excited to meet up with her. Maybe our time in person would be just as enjoyable as our time on the phone.

“Are you still available to meet up today?” I asked finally.

When she asked if I’d be available to hang out, I didn’t think that it was meant to be any sort of date or romantic interaction, but after the way the morning had gone, it had that feeling to it. At least the thought that she might suddenly decide she didn’t want to meet up made me nervous.

“Yeah! I’ve kind of ditched Zai and Shayne today anyway. What did you have in mind?”

A huge smile crossed my face, one I couldn’t remember having recently, if at all. “Do you like being outside? I know a place that’s really relaxing.”

“It’s my preference to be outside. Do you want to just send me the address?”

My heart started to beat a little faster. “If you want, I can come pick you up?”

“Okay!” Nyssa replied with a smiling emoji and then said, “I’m at the hotel and ready when you are, so just let me know when you get here.”

I took a deep breath. “Will do. I’ll be there soon.”

Quickly, I hopped off the couch and went up to my bedroom to shower and change. Then I went and got my bike and started for the city. When I arrived at the hotel and let Nyssa know I was there to get her, she almost immediately came walking out of the hotel lobby. She looked stunning in a strapless sundress with a pair of gladiator sandals that went up her shins, and she had her hair down in curly waves on either side of her face.

She really was incredibly beautiful.

“Good afternoon,” I greeted as I lifted my helmet off

Her eyes widened. “Oh wow! You have a motorcycle? You were in a car yesterday.”

“Yeah.” I popped the kickstand out and then climbed off the bike. “Yesterday I had my brother’s car because he needed me to get it from A to B. This is my preferred method of transportation. Since I can’t shift like normal, this gives me something like the feeling of it.” The fact that I’d just said that to her was strange. I hadn’t told anyone that was how I felt before.
